Arcade 1up Tate Mode Mod

Here’s a project I’ve been wanting to do for a while now, and I finally made it happen!

I’ve been keeping an eye on the Arcade 1up machines since they started improving them, and they’ve become quite popular among gamers for their easy mod-ability…modibility…mod…er…moddib…

They’re easy to put a Raspberry Pi in.

What I really wanted to do, though, was a tate mode, or vertical, version, with the idea of playing vertical shmups and old school games like Pac-Man and Galaga full-screen. Well, the Space Invaders Arcade 1up is the most affordable of all the A1up products, and I was up for a project, so away we go!

I made this video to show it off and explain some of my choices, which may seem a bit odd at first but make sense to me. Enjoy, and don’t forget to like and subscribe!

I took a lot of photos of the actual process, which I think may become a feature in issue 4 of the Retro Game SuperHyper fanzine, so if you’re interested in the guts of the project, look for that next January!

Unboxing a Sealed CIB Xenophobe for Atari 2600

Two video posts in a row? What’s this blog coming to?

I’d been on the lookout for a copy of Xenophobe for the Atari 2600, one of the later titles released in the system’s twilight years. Many of the copies you’ll find on eBay are from Europe, and are therefore the PAL format; of course, I was looking for a North American NTSC version, which is a bit harder to find. Well, I took a bit of a gamble on a sealed CIB copy from a seller here in the US, and I recorded the unboxing and the big reveal when I put it into my ol’ VCS and found out whether or not it was what I was looking for. Check it out!

I Found A Box Full of Cool Stuff!

I was looking for some of my old Atari catalogs, and I found them in this box that has piles of other stuff in it, so if you have about 45 minutes to hang out, I thought you might like to dig through this box with me.

There’s some cool surprises in here, like original Nintendo Fun Club cards, Midwest Gaming Classic flyers, old console manuals, catalogs showing games that never came out, and some promotional VHS tapes.

Thanks for watching, hope you dig it, and if you do, please do the whole like-and-subscribe thing!

Elevator Action MyArcade Unboxing

If you like the video, please SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON as the kids are sayin’, and subscribe to the Retro Game SuperHyper YouTube channel! That’s only two clicks, you can totally do it! Thank you!

Fast Striker PS4 LE Unboxing

Last October, game publisher East Asia Soft held a giveaway on Instagram that involved some liking and reposting and tagging, and the prize was a limited physical edition of Fast Striker by NG Dev Team for PS4. Somehow, I was one of two winners! Continue reading “Fast Striker PS4 LE Unboxing”
