Too Much of a Good Thing

Classic cute-’em-up Cotton is getting a reboot! Titled, appropriately enough, Cotton Reboot, and including the original X68000 version (which is pretty identical to the arcade version, from what I can tell) as well as an HD remake, the game is being issued by BEEP for PS4 and Switch in a variety of configurations. I’m excited!

By “a variety of configurations,” I mean a standard game-only edition, a box set including all sorts of bonus items, and a dee-luxe edition with all the box set stuff plus a cool throwback X68000-style case.

The X68000 version is the one I would love to have, but ultimately, I opted to buy just the game by itself. Why tho?

Waxing Nostalgic

There’s a new video on the Retro Game SuperHyper YouTube Channel! This time, I show off video game trading card wax packs from the 1980s!

If you were a kid during the Golden Age of video games, you probably ran across these more than a few times, and if you were like me, you bought ’em, played the scratch-off games, and stuck the stickers on everything you owned. Let’s revisit them, shall we?

I’m also thinking about turning this into an expanded pictorial in issue #4 of the RGSH fanzine, so stay tuned for more waxy memories!

Grails

“Hey Teej,” I hear you saying, “After almost 40 years of video game playing and collecting, what is your ultimate Holy Grail? Also, you’re looking particularly handsome today.” Well, thank you, and yes, I’m so glad you asked that question! If I won the lottery, was independently wealthy, got to spend someone else’s money, or was just plain financially irresponsible, what would I buy from that great mythical reef store that has everything I’ve ever dreamed of? This totally self-indulgent article has those answers! Continue reading “Grails”

Is your Slime slimy?

ewwwww

If you have the Dragon Quest Blue Slime controller for PS2 by Hori, released in conjunction with Dragon Quest VIII in 2004, you may have noticed that after 13 years of collecting dust on your shelf, it’s become disgusting. Maybe it’s got a gross, sticky film on it? This is actually pretty common with PVC items such as action figures and other toys, and my DQ Slime controller was susceptible to it as well. So, I’m here to tell you how to clean it up and make it, you know, not totally revolting to touch! Continue reading “Is your Slime slimy?”

10.5shot

My reissue Hudson Shooting Watch, still showing my record of 10.5 shots per second

Ever use one of these? It’s a Hudson Shooting Watch. They came out in Japan in the ’80s and were reissued in the late 2000s. It’s a gadget that measures how many times you can press a button in 10 seconds, thereby telling you how many shots per second you can achieve, which I guess is useful information if you’re a shmup enthusiast, which I am. Continue reading “10.5shot”
