Here’s a game I’ve been wanting to play for a while: Famicom Tantei (Detective) Club II for Super Famicom. It’s a remake of the game of the same name, which was released on Famicom Disk System; this game even reproduces the FDS boot screen when you start it up.
I’m a big fan of the Japanese-style adventure game. I’ve played through lots of them in both English and Japanese, including Snatcher (SegaCD) (of which I am a HUGE fan), Policenauts (PS1), Galaxy Fraulein Yuna Remix (Saturn), Ranma 1/2 (PC-Engine), and more.
So far I like the graphics and music very much. As this game was released in 1998 (!), very very late in the SFC’s lifecycle (the N64 was already on the market for a few years), the presentation is really top-notch 16-bit stuff.
I found the English fan translation of it and just started playing it via emulation. I would prefer to have a nice repro cart to play on my SNES, as I know they’re available, but for now this will do; if I really like it, I might spring for a physical cart.
Assuming this won’t be a quick play, I’ll be picking away at it and let you know how it goes!
