When we last left off months ago in Game Room Setup, Part 1, we had just finished moving into our house and I had a big mess on my hands that I need to turn into a great space for gaming, streaming, and chilling. Well, we’ve been here for about five months now, and I am happy to report that I have…a…somewhat smaller mess on my hands.

Things have gradually been getting put away and cleared out, and it’s finally starting to take shape. In fact, that wall space is now open enough to start moving the big bois in.

Unfortunately, there’s only enough space on that wall for four of my six machines. I don’t want any in front of the windows, and the rest of the room is full of shelving containing books, movies, and music — this is going to be more of a media room than strictly a game room, and I’m totally fine with that. Since my Space Invaders is currently not working, I don’t mind leaving that one out for now, but I might have to come up with a solution for the fifth game. I’ll think about that after I get the first four in here.

The built-in shelves are full now, and I’m still not crazy about the accessibility situation, but for now, at least all the games are put away.

Part of the wall of bookshelves containing my wife’s and my library is dedicated to my collection of video game history, art, and strategy books.

And here’s the corner where all the retro console magick is gonna happen. I am keeping the consoles unattached, and plan to only hook each one up when I play it, so that I don’t end up with a snake pit of wires and cables like I always do. Behind each console is a small black plastic basket containing controllers, cables, and plugs for each system, making everything quick and easy to access.

I am also planning to put a flat-screen TV on the wall above.

What’s next? There are still some boxes that need unpacking and removing, then I can work on putting up some lighting, and you can see in the room photo up top that I still have an unfinished project to work on. I guess the last step will be to move in some arcade games, and then…time to play!! I’ll keep you posted!
