Today is Retro Game SuperHyper’s third birthday!

Nintendo didn’t actually send me this, I just stole it from their Twitter. I can pretend they like my blog, whatever, it’s my birthday

So let me just spew a few thoughts your way about where Retro Game SuperHyper is at, here on the doorstep of its fourth year!

I love doing this blog and its offshoots, the fanzine, the Instagram, and the YouTube channel. My goal has always been to post a couple times a week, but unfortunately I don’t have the time to meet that often, so maybe once a week is more realistic. But when I have an idea, I jump on it! There are a bunch of drafts just waiting to be completed, and as always, I’m excited about them.

The blog gets somewhere in the range of 10-30 visitors per day, which isn’t bad. I didn’t expect to set the world on fire with this project. But I do think I have a pretty good site here, and I think the ‘zine is really cool too, so I’m just cranking along, promoting where I can without being too obnoxious, and hoping that “threshold of discovery” is crossed someday where it will become more notable. I will say there are some content creators and such folks who I very much admire who have started to follow me on Twitter, and that makes me very happy so I guess I must be doing something kinda right. Really, I do appreciate the recognition of my peers, since I have actually been doing internet video game nerd stuff for over 20 years.

What’s next? The fanzine! With two issues out now and still available, My goal has always been to get each issue of the fanzine out on the blog’s birthday, and as you can see, we are here today, but issue 3 is not. But fear not, I am currently working on it, it’s probably about 20% complete, still working on the cover art, layout, writing, and waiting for some interviews to get back.

Here’s a tiny overview of the progress on issue 3

Issue 2 didn’t even come out until January of this year, but I’m confident that #3 will be here well before Christmas, and I already have some ideas for issue 4!

I’m always down for doing some more YouTube videos too, and I have a couple ideas, but I could use some more inspiration! Is there anything you’d like to see me do, show, or cover for future videos? More subscribers and more feedback would be very encouraging!

Oh yeah, I started a Patreon this year too! I was super excited to roll that out and see how all my fans could help the site grow! How’s that going?

…alrighty then. Moving on.

In case you haven’t checked out the Teespring store lately, there are still new t-shirts popping up occasionally. I actually have always loved designing t-shirts, and will continue to put out new designs!

Ideas are always swirling around. Chiptunes, artwork, networking. But of course, none of it matters much without your support, so thank you for visiting and sticking with me! And please spread the word!

Now, back to work on the next post and that fanzine…!
